New Term

Hello Everyone,

Sorry that it has been such a long time since I last posted.

Well let me catch you up on what ha been happening. I have started my HND year at Dundee college and I have to say that i am loving it!

I have quite a few projects and I am going to share some of them with you. Going from my research through to the final design.

This first project is called Textile Accessories Advanced. The theme that I have chosen is grids and lines.
By then end of this project I have to produce a collection of 3 accessories.

For me a project nearly always starts with me making a mind map.

Yeah I know right this minuet you are almost certainly thinking; wow, that is a little crazy!
well at the beginning of any project you are right, crazy kind of covers it due to the overwhelming ideas that you get.

But from this beautiful mess I decided to go with buildings.

My Research come next:

These pages of my sketchbook are a mixture of original source photographs and secondary sources. the other page is a stencil inspire by these photos and the middle piece is an ideas card.

On the left hand of this page is a photo of parts of New York being built, in the centre is a piece by Stephan Annened, and below it there is a picture of Dundee's high rise flats. finally to the right of the page there is some of my own mark making.

As I continued to look at buildings and the type of lines that they have and that I like to make I found a plethora of other artists that are inspiring to me.

The left page consists of my own photo of a most wonderful Chateaux in France in the Loire Valley, Where many a happy memory has been formed. Also on this page there are two pictures of stunning architecture. My inspirational designer on this page is called Harold Riley, and his use of wonderful colours and lines are the reason why he is on this page.

The right hand page see inspiration from Harold Riley, Bridget Collins and Moy Mackay, with a small triangle of my own playing.

This page is quite an influential one as I think it is going to be the main ideas for my accessories. Again images from Bridget Collins, Harold Riley and Snap Dragon. I also have my own picture of when i went to prague and saw this amazing cathedral. (centre)

After I completed my research on lines and grids. we had a workshop with our lecturer, on mark making. I created this page by using an A3 piece of watercolour paper used three different colour of paints some textured and I scraped it across the page. let it dry then cut it up and places it into my sketchbook.

After the work shop I finally got down to making some marks of my own. these are a mixture of media including stitch and graphite.

This page is made with acrylic paints and charcoal. It represent the cathedral arches in my research.

Well that is all for now, I will keep you updated every week on the progress of this subject.
If you have ay questions please feel free to contact me.

Till next time

Number 95 interview

Well Hello Again!

Today I had a wonderful interview with Louise Gourley owner of Number 95  in Dundee.

Number 95 is Dundee's Hidden gem, it is an exclusive day spa, that is family run and will be expanding next year.
Louise and her family run clinical therapies and are spinal and hormonal specialist with 13 years experience.

This beautiful day spa provides; facials, manicures and pedicures, massages, reflexology, aromatherapy, indian head massage and reiki.

When relaxing and enjoying these fantastic therapies they use there own Number 95 all natural products, which are made in Dundee.

Number 95 also provide wonderful pamper parties, Hen parties, a romantic pamper for two and corporate wellness sessions.

I can happily tell you that i had my birthday there and me and 8 friends were pampered to the eyeballs and I have never felt so great! we were welcomed into this beautiful place, popped straight into dressing gowns, and all given a glass of wine!
After that we were each pampered to our choice of two therapies, and about half way through the day we had cupcake decorating with the Scarlett Bakery and then were fed a sumptuous buffet. i highly recommend a party or even just one treatment i have never felt better!

After chatting to Louise about her business i then asked her about Dundee;

Q: Why did you choose Dundee?

A: "I was brought up in Dundee and when I had my children I wanted them to go somewhere decent. Also it is just the most beautiful place in the world to me, there is no where else in Scotland where I am 90mins away from 90% of Scotland. Every time I step out my fount door I am confronted with the Tay estuary's beauty and it just takes my breathe away.'

Q: Where is your favourite place in Dundee?

A: "Balgay Hill, withut a doubt. it has some of the best views, most beautiful trees and a wonderful public observatory, which is pretty rare."

Quote: "I have travelled the world and could have settled anywhere but I chose Dundee..."

Last but not least, A Massive thank you to Louise! Thank you for Supporting Dundee and being a Dundee Hero!

Alice Dress!

Well hello again!
I am very excited today as I will be posting about my contribution for the Dundee fashion show this year!

This year we had a module called garment construction, which is the drawing, cutting, and construction of clothing.

Our brief for the fashion this year was to design a dress for our client! Who I am very happy to announce is Alice ! And she is a band member of... The Hazey Janes!!!

They are a band from Dundee who are just fab!
Check out there website for more infor on them.

We met with Alice to discuss what she wanted in a dress and her likes and dislikes.

We then produced a few designs for her to choose. She chose the winner of the dress that she will be wearing on the catwalk this year and she also chose a design from each of us.

I am happy to say that my design was highly commended! (my drawing is below)

After we got our designs back we started to make it. From taking a basic shift dress pattern and turning it into our designs.

We drew, cut and sewed and I am very proud to I have just finished dying my fabric!!

Will post again when my dress is finished!!!!

A snippet in time

I started at Dundee college in 2010 as one of the first things that we ever had to do was work in teams to recreate Dundee in cardboard! So here are a few pictures and can I guess where in Dundee they are meant To represent ?
Please excuse the slightly blurry photos
