Shetland!

Hello Everyone,
I am now back from the Shetlands sorry I didn't post much, as you can imagine 3G and wifi weren't always easy to come across.

This first post is about the stunning landscape in Shetland the. I will do another on some of the amazing craft people that I met while I was up there. The next few pictures were taken all over the island.
Enjoy!

My plan ride over, have to say that I was really impressed with my phone at this point for being able to capture the propellers :)

Apart from one or two bigger towns most of the houses on the island are sporadic, yet the sense of community is very strong even humbling.

This is a view from the B&B where I stayed, it is just stunning took my breathe away every morning.
This is Brig beach (I think) and is in East Burra. this is a little hidden treasure but well worth a visit.

The same beach as before but a close up, it has stunning white sand and those foot prints on the right were the only ones on the beach before us!

This is Near Sumbrough and is a drive by beach photo, unfortunately we didn't have time to visit it but it is on my list for next time! and yes the water really is that clear all over the island.

This is St Ninina's Beach just about Sumbrough and is the most photographed beach on the island, and to be honest I can understand why, this beach stretched out for a mile and the sea meets on both sides.
This is close to the Ferry crossing to Yell, I know that it looks a little bleak but apparently when you get to the other side it is stunning and lots of things to do.
the scenery is stunning but up here there are very few houses, I don't know if I could take the isolation

This is just a quick snap, I love the colours and we were so lucky with weather!

Well this is end of part one! I will post post part two soon.
Bye for Now!

Stunning Dundee

Just can't believe that a wee city like Dundee could be surrounded by such beauty

Half way through

Hello everyone,

Just updating you on how I have been getting on with my textile accessories advanced project.

Right well last time I had just started to draw from my research, I have now decided fully that I am going to do church arches.

After these drawings I then decided to change colour:

So here are some more drawings.

This went quite well but I decided to stick with the yellow, purple, black and gold.

After this came choosing one or two paper that I would like to further developers into fabric samples I chose these

And that is all for now until I starts to make fabric samples and draw designs for accessories

New Term

Hello Everyone,

Sorry that it has been such a long time since I last posted.

Well let me catch you up on what ha been happening. I have started my HND year at Dundee college and I have to say that i am loving it!

I have quite a few projects and I am going to share some of them with you. Going from my research through to the final design.

This first project is called Textile Accessories Advanced. The theme that I have chosen is grids and lines.
By then end of this project I have to produce a collection of 3 accessories.

For me a project nearly always starts with me making a mind map.

Yeah I know right this minuet you are almost certainly thinking; wow, that is a little crazy!
well at the beginning of any project you are right, crazy kind of covers it due to the overwhelming ideas that you get.

But from this beautiful mess I decided to go with buildings.

My Research come next:

These pages of my sketchbook are a mixture of original source photographs and secondary sources. the other page is a stencil inspire by these photos and the middle piece is an ideas card.

On the left hand of this page is a photo of parts of New York being built, in the centre is a piece by Stephan Annened, and below it there is a picture of Dundee's high rise flats. finally to the right of the page there is some of my own mark making.

As I continued to look at buildings and the type of lines that they have and that I like to make I found a plethora of other artists that are inspiring to me.

The left page consists of my own photo of a most wonderful Chateaux in France in the Loire Valley, Where many a happy memory has been formed. Also on this page there are two pictures of stunning architecture. My inspirational designer on this page is called Harold Riley, and his use of wonderful colours and lines are the reason why he is on this page.

The right hand page see inspiration from Harold Riley, Bridget Collins and Moy Mackay, with a small triangle of my own playing.

This page is quite an influential one as I think it is going to be the main ideas for my accessories. Again images from Bridget Collins, Harold Riley and Snap Dragon. I also have my own picture of when i went to prague and saw this amazing cathedral. (centre)

After I completed my research on lines and grids. we had a workshop with our lecturer, on mark making. I created this page by using an A3 piece of watercolour paper used three different colour of paints some textured and I scraped it across the page. let it dry then cut it up and places it into my sketchbook.

After the work shop I finally got down to making some marks of my own. these are a mixture of media including stitch and graphite.

This page is made with acrylic paints and charcoal. It represent the cathedral arches in my research.

Well that is all for now, I will keep you updated every week on the progress of this subject.
If you have ay questions please feel free to contact me.

Till next time
